Uniform

Following a process of consultation with Parents and Governors Barkerend Academy uniform was carefully chosen for its practicality, comfort and smartness. We aim to give the children a sense of the school’s identity within the community.

From Reception year onwards children will be expected to wear school uniform as follows:-

Girls

  • Navy shalwar kameez or navy skirt, pinafore or trousers
  • White shirt (short or long sleeved)
  • Red sweatshirt, cardigan or jumper (with or without the school logo)
  • White or navy socks or tights
  • Black low heeled shoes
  • (Summer option) – Red gingham dress with white socks or white shalwar trousers
  • If headscarves are worn these should be plain navy blue with no lace or decoration

Boys

  • Navy smart style trousers
  • White shirt (short or long sleeved)
  • Red jumper or sweatshirt (with or without the school logo)
  • Black, white or navy socks
  • Black shoes
  • (Summer option) – Navy shorts instead of trousers

Red sweatshirts embroidered with the Barkerend Academy logo and book bags can be purchased from the school office on a Friday morning between 9.00am and 10.00 a.m.

  • Sweatshirts
  • Book bags – blue or red
  • PE bags (with logo) blue or red

Jewellery, with the exception of stud type earrings, should not be worn for health and safety reasons and to promote the smart appearance of pupils when in uniform.

Children should wear sensible, smart black school shoes (no trainers). Girls should not wear high heeled shoes or boots.

All uniform should be clearly labelled with the child’s full name and class.

Nursery

There is no requirement for children to wear uniform in Nursery.
If parents would like their children to wear a red top in line with the rest of school they are welcome to purchase these either from their local shop or from the school office.
It would be helpful for the children if they could wear jogging bottoms or elasticated waists to make it easier for them when going to the toilet.
Sensible shoes or trainers are essential for their safety when playing. Please ensure your child’s full name is written in their coat.
For PE lessons all children are expected to wear a PE kit. In Reception classes a vest and pants may be worn but parents may prefer their child to wear a PE kit as described below.
Teachers will inform pupils and parents/carers when PE lessons will take place at the start of the school year. Please ensure that your child’s kit is in school on the appropriate days.

PE kit for all pupils

Black shorts or jogging trousers
White T-shirt (no logo)
Black pumps (Years 1 to 6)

For health and safety reasons, all headscarves and prayer necklaces should be able to be removed for the duration of PE lessons. All PE kit must be labelled with your child’s full name and brought to school in a small PE bag.
