At Barkerend Academy we cook all our meals on the premises.  We are fully approved to supply Halal meals.  Our suppliers of Halal meat are accredited by the HMC (Halal Monitoring Committee) and we are audited on a regular basis by the Council for Mosques.  All staff are fully trained in the process of preparing Halal meals. Pupils have a choice of meals each day and we have a varied three week menu which change termly.

The chance to have a free school meal is extremely important to a substantial number of children from low income families. For some of these children, a school lunch may be the only balanced meal they will eat in a day.

From September 2014 the Government introduced ‘Universal Free School Meals’ where all children in Key Stage 1 are entitled to a free school meal. However we would still encourage our parents who are on a low income to apply for free school meals. If your family qualifies there are other additional benefits.

How do I apply for free school meals?

If you are in receipt of certain benefits or on a low income your child may be entitled to Free School Meals.

You can apply online and the application process has been improved so that you will be able to see immediately if your family qualifies. Please use the link below to apply now.

If you do qualify the school also benefits as we receive extra money, this is called Pupil Premium. This is used to provide extra support to children. If you are entitled to free school meals then your child will also receive free milk and be eligible for assistance under our School Uniform Assistance Policy
